Just When I Think I'm Done....

I can't believe I forgot to include this one in the last post! I was fortunate as a ki d to go to the Nutcracker every year at Christmas! My Mom always made it a big event. Fancy dinner, fancy clothes and lots of pretty ballerinas!

As a result, since having a daughter, I've been very excited to start the same tradition. I just needed to wait until Olivia was old enough. And, of course, I thought about it too late, so the only show I could get good tickets to was the 7:30pm show on Friday night. Which is not too far off her bedtime! Oh well. Rules are meant to be broken. So, Kyle and I took Olivia to a fancy dinner in downtown Miami and then off to the Nutcracker! Olivia did great!! It was a really fun, and late, night!

I Feel Like I'm Cheating....

I hope the Snapfish link works. If they don't, please let me know! I promise I won't always put these links in, but the process of uploading pictures to Blogger if quite painful. It's a labor of love, for sure! I will continue doing regular pictures because I get 'finger' happy with the camera and not everyone wants to see 200+ pictures from Disneyworld!!

But, on the other hand, I realize that we live far away now and not everyone (mostly the grandparents) don't get to see the 'stuff' Olivia's up to on a frequent basis. So, I'm going to post one last link to Snapfish for the year 2009. This one is from Olivia's school holiday program. The video is on our Flip camera and I haven't uploaded that yet. But, I was able to get a picture of the one-and-only........KEIFFER! Yes, the 'crush' is alive and well. Fortunately for me, he's in a class with a good friend of Olivia's. So, I was able to take pictures of him to show the world without looking like Stalker Mom!

He is a cute kid. And, a pretty good kid. To bad for Olivia, he's not really interested in girls....but great for us! Not really ready to handle this part of life with a daughter!

The rest of life is going well. We were fortunate enough to get a reprieve from 'summer' for a few days. The bad blizzard that hit the Northeast started out down south. Only, obviously not with the snow! This weekend was absolutely beautiful! Blue skies, 60 degrees and cool nights. Priceless. It's not going to last, so lucky for us, we're heading to Texas!

If I don't get to post before the end of the year.....I hope everyone has a wonderful and very merry Christmas and the best new year in 2010!!! This has been a great year of transitions and we are looking forward to the year ahead as we settle even more into Miami!
Love from the Lanes!!

The Struggle

An anyone who has talked to me knows....I am really struggling with the weather here. I had NO idea it could have this great of an impact on any one person. Olivia doesn't notice. Give her a T-shirt and flip flops and she's as happy as a clam. But, Kyle and I.....dying. I have lived in a few places. As a kid, I lived on the East Coast. I loved the fact that you could ice skate on frozen ponds, build snowmen and bundle up to where you can't even move because it's necessary. Then, we moved to Arizona. About as opposite as you can get. Maybe it's because I was still young, but I didn't seem to mind the heat. Truth be told, I'm pretty hot natured as well. Didn't mind Az. We swam, we hiked the desert and we could drive a few hours and be in the mountains with plenty of snow. I remember many drives in Az to the mountains where blizzards came in and we were often stranded on the highway for hours. Then, TX. Yes, it's hot. But, contrary to urban legend....there are seasons. And, yes, it does get miserably hot there in the summer. But, you are rewarded with a Fall and a Spring.

So, I haven't been able to figure out why this frickin' weather bothers me so much here. During the summer when we lived on the beach, it was great. Everyone was as naked as you could get legally and we swam every day. It was the 'in' thing to be hot in Miami. But, it's the week before Christmas. It's still summer here...with 80% humidity! I'm wanting to buy new clothes, but all the stores 'stock' as if it was the rest of the country. With a 'weather change'. I'm watching these cute Gap ads with kids running around singing about their boots and sweaters and scarves....Ugh! Speaking of Uggs...not here. you're crazy.

I had the good fortune of going to Chicago this week. It was 7f! 10 below with the wind chill. Normally, not a huge fan of that either. This week....pure nirvana!! I found heaven! I read the USA Today on my plane ride home. That's when it hit me.
This is what I saw. Only, yesterday it was actually 80+ here. EVERY OTHER PART OF THE COUNTRY IS A DIFFERENT COLOR THAN S. FLORIDA!!! The recruiting company forgot to tell me this when they told me about the job. Who chooses to move to hell? Really? I actually think we really like this place deep down, but right now, I cannot get past this major roadblock. Every other part of the United States can 'feel' the holidays. Not here. It's as artificial as the tree sitting in our living room. I wish I weren't allergic to pine trees just so we could at least 'smell' Christmas if we aren't able to 'feel' it.
6 days....and counting. TX here we come!
To end on a good note...because I do really like to be 'half full' when possible. We have these really rich neighbors (too bad we can't return the blessing) and they have invited us on their 'yacht' for the weekend. It's 48ft, has 3 bedrooms, 2 baths and a kitchen. Maybe we'll run into Tiger Woods on the open seas, as I hear that's where he's hiding these days. If it's going to be H-O-T, at least we can go out and try to enjoy it!

WooHoo!!!

So, I may not have figured out how to conquer Flickr, but I DID figure out how to post a slideshow or link to Snapfish albums onto my blog. The best part.....it is as easy as the click of a button. I will try to strike the balance of providing updates, yet not flooding the Internet highway....everyone knows I like to take pictures!! Anyone guess where I got that habit??

On a side note....we are counting down the days until we make it back to Texas. In the spirit of the trip, Kyle, Olivia and I have all started a list of what we're looking forward to. Want to see it??

- Weather that resembles something along the lines of Fall/Winter....
- Good Tex/Mex Food....Make that GREAT Mexican food.
- Along with that....a GREAT margarita!
- Friends...
- Family....(in equal ranking as friends)
- People that know how to drive...safely.
- People that fall in the 'Spanish as a Second Language' category
- Hills or anything 5ft above sea level
- Zero mosquito's
- zero (or little) humidity
- The ability to comfortably wear anything other than a bathing suit, shorts, flip flops and sundresses...
- Friends...and ...Family
- The chance to see all these little babies that we haven't been able to see grow.
- Ella, Raigen, Katie, Josh, Kaitlyn, Ali baby, and all of Olivia's friends that she talks about weekly.
- Moni's, Manny's, Mi Cocina, Olenjack's, , El Gabacho, Piranha's, downtown Fort Worth, Uptown and all the other places we miss hanging out at with friends!
- Country music (and people that know what country music is)
- Authentic Longhorn fans. Go 'Horns!
- Girls that are as into sports as guys and can 'talk the talk'
- Girls that know the difference between Football and 'Football' (a.k.a. soccer in this part of the world)
- Hunting (if this were Kyle typing this blog)
- Did I mention Friends and Family???

On a side note for those that have not heard (do not mean to end this on a sad note)...but, it looks like we have hit bad luck with our 3rd dog. Poor Sambo. It looks like Sam has some 'tumors' that continue to spread. The vet here (although I would like a 2nd opinion) has given him 6 mos to a year. He's had three surgeries in a month to remove tumors and the poor little guy is struggling. We are not having good luck at all with our dogs. The worst part is...we really like Sam. He was always kind of the 'runt' and a tad annoying when Jake and Jackie were around. Now that he's on his own...he's become a GREAT dog. We love him. And, he's become O's best pal ever. He goes with me to tuck her in bed and read stories every night and he sleeps with her cuddled up on her bed. The other morning I woke up and peeked through her door to find him sitting right next to her and Olivia just petting on him and giving him kissed. They have become kindred spirits.
